The launch of Exploring Raasay on the island on Friday 17th July was a reminder of how rewarding publishing can be – when a book really connects with its readership.
The enthusiasm of the audience clearly showed that Nick Fairweather had fully involved the local community in his writing project, and that they were fully behind it. That's the real value of books, bringing people together through shared interests and ideas, and it's a powerful thing to happen in any place.
We hope the book will also contribute to Raasay's economic future as it presents a very positive image of the island as a place to visit and explore.
The next day there was a choice; canvassing booksellers on the Isle of Skye or testing out one of Nick's walking routes. We chose a walk in the rain to Mannish More (see Walk 13, page 81.)
